Biography

Dr. A.J. Lytle grew up in Dearborn, Michigan.  He earned both his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees from the University of Michigan.  Keeping with the long tradition of military service in his family, he joined the United States Army after dental school. He then completed a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry program. During this year, he realized how much he enjoyed the blend between medicine and dentistry and the significant impact that he could make as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Dr. Lytle served four years as a general dentist in the Army, including a tour during  Operation Iraqi Freedom. He then went on to complete his surgical training at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center at Bethesda where he treated complex war trauma, as well as advanced maxillofacial surgical procedures for active duty Soldiers, Veterans, and their families.  Dr. Lytle then served as the Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, CA, as well as at Martin Army Community Hospital at Fort Benning, GA.  He separated from the Army after 12 years of active duty service, receiving an Honorable Discharge and earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  After several years out of state, he and his family decided to return to Michigan. He enjoys living in West Michigan, and he is committed to providing safe, efficient, and quality care to all of his patients.

Dr. Lytle has special interests in dentoalveolar procedures, preprosthetic surgery to include advanced bone grafting, and dental implant placement.  He has hospital privileges at Trinity Health St. Mary’s where he treats facial trauma patients and complex head and neck infections.   His philosophy to patient care is simple: respect and treat patients the way he would wish to be treated, which inevitably results in the best experience possible.
